Reading Buddies Program
By learning, you will teach; by teaching, you will learn -Phil CollinsThe Reading Buddies Program is a program created by Ms. Ginart, Ms. Valkos, and Ms. Yirce for the 1st, 2nd, and 5th graders. Their goal is for the 5th grade readers to act as mentors for the elementary school students, so they can help them become better readers, and model good reading and fluency. The students meet every Wednesday during 7th period to accomplish this goal. The 5th graders act as coaches for the younger students and help them learn, read, and answer questions. Some of the younger students even read to older ELL learners. Like the common saying says, the best way to learn is to teach. The feedback from the students was also very positive. Overall, most of the students really like it. They love helping, being able to act like the teacher for a bit, and guiding the students, so they do get quite excited each Wednesday. -Ms. Ginart-Vildan Cavdar
