Pioneer Academy of Science (PAS) is an Independent not-for-profit private school that offers a stimulating education to ALL Students regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background. The school was founded on high academic achievement principles. A solid foundation in core subjects is taught along with fundamental moral values. Students graduate as responsible, intellectual and self-directed individuals with all the skills that require one to be a successful member of society.
PAS is not a homogenous ethnic school; it is simply an institution which strives to give children a well-rounded education through challenging interdisciplinary curricula, stimulating extra-curricular activities, and community involvement, while instilling a lifelong love for learning. Although academics are our number one priority, we also encourage student participation in extra-curricular activities and community outreach programs. By the time a PAS students graduate, they are involved in their communities and have set precedent for future alumni, thus raising the bar higher for the next class.
In 2006 PAS began participating in competitions such as Future City, Science Olympiad and local art and essay contests. Soon after the administration sensed the students’ need to be part of something bigger. The creation of the Life Savers club in 2008 marked the beginning of a PAS’s many successes in volunteering and community involvement. That same year, the club sponsored International Day to bring awareness of the school’s diversity. Funds collected were donated to The Fight Against Hunger Foundation. Soon after, students were helping clean graffiti in Lower Manhattan. In 2009, The Life Savers Club partnered with Helping Hands Organization and traveled to Mozambique, Africa were they assisted in the building of a well in the small town of Maputo, distributed food to the poor and toys to the children.
In most recent years, club members have constantly participated in building houses for the poor through Habitat for Humanity and have sponsored and volunteered at the soup kitchens run by The Health & Human Service Center in Hackensack. They have also organized food drives for St. Peter’s Haven, clothing drives for Helping Hands, and blood drives for the NY & NJ Blood Center. Students remember the children of St. Jude’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital during Valentine’s Day and Eastern by decorating cards and sending donations. Pediatric Angel Network approached the club in February of 2012 and the school immediately took on the task of sponsoring one of their cases.
Pioneer Academy of Science will continue to increase its involvement in the community. If you know of a project or cause in which our students can get involved, send us an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
